Martha Posner

February 9 - April 11, 2021

Brutal Beauty: The Transformation of Women in Mythology at the Sordoni Art Gallery is a midcareer retrospective of the interdisciplinary artist, Martha Posner. Martha Posner is a mixed-media artist living and working in Martins Creek, PA. Examining themes of trauma and recovery through the lens of classic mythology, Posner’s large-scale paintings and sculptures haunt the viewer with an unparalleled perspective on familiar folklore. Her work is in service to a better understanding of the trauma women experience, providing perspective to those unable to speak on their own.

Posner is a sculptor living on a farm in Martins Creek, Pennsylvania. She takes much of her inspiration from the 250 acres of surrounding forest, fairy tales and mythology, and her many barnyard creatures. She is a Mary H. Dana Fellow, and an Experimental Printmaking Workshop Fellow. Some of her collectors and exhibitions include The Allentown Art Museum, The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Butler Museum of Art, Lehigh University, The George Gund Foundation, and The Spoletto Festival. Publications and reviews of her work can be found in The New York Times, Surface Design, Art Forum, ArtNews, and Sculpture Magazine. She is represented by Accola Griefen in New York City.
